[00:00] Dumb Shower is a weekly live chat on all things tech, crypto and pop culture news brought to you by Boys Club, a New York based media and creative studio. DBH is hosted by myself, Dina Burke and Natasha Hoskins. Hi. Co-founders, marketers and entrepreneurs that have built our careers in new tech and startups. We're also proudly the dumbest bitches in the room and we love to learn in public. DBH is recorded live and best consumed as a video podcast. Here's this week's show. [00:30] you [00:32] This is DBH, Dumb Bitch Hour, where we talk about tech news and we have a lot of fun doing it. We have a bunch of friends who come on and hang out with us. So we'll either get smarter or dumber in the next hour. Probably a little bit of both, to be honest. Boys Club is a media co and creative studio. We do podcasts. We do newsletters. We do live streams. We are for dumb, smart people or smart, dumb people. [01:02] with Brain at this point. I saw a tweet today that was so, [01:05] spoke to me so directly and into the inside of my heart, which said, you're meeting me at a very online time in my life. And that is what boys club is basically anything to add. That's kind of the vibe. Uh, and let's move on here before we, one other thing you can get into the chat too, by clicking the live stream and then, um, commenting in that area. And it's really fun. So here's our first comment.
[01:32] Hey, I see you haven't rebranded. LOL. We thought about changing the name of this live stream like two seconds after we launched the live stream. [01:43] So we have not. We're sticking with it for now. [01:47] for now for now stay tuned who knows what'll happen the subject uh to change is a core [01:55] premise of Boys Club. Okay, next slide. Okay, quick just notes on the agenda here. We are going to start with some friends. Jacqueline and Jade are going to come on and talk about the Avalanche Summit. We'll pull them up in a few minutes. Then we have a lot to get through. We're going to talk about the crypto and AI innovators dinner. [02:16] And just the Trump... [02:18] crypto dinners that are planned for this month generally we're going to talk about iced coffee and birth control uh we're going to talk about some real id drama the pectra ethereum upgrade we have some intel on that we're going to talk about a story that came out this week around facebook ads and uh targeting around teenage girls and their behavior which is kind of weird and gross uh there's some gabagool drama that i don't think natasha nor kate you guys are filled in on [02:48] we're going to talk about for a minute on that it was [02:53] Honestly, as far as the story goes, it's fairly light, but we are going to cover it today. We're going to have our good friend of the pod, Daisy, on to talk about a brand new thing that we're launching together called Clone. More on that in a bit. ChatGPT Doctors, which has been getting a lot of play on the timeline this week. And then Katy Perry at the Met Gala. I got poop craved. I got poop craved. We all did.
[03:18] So that's the agenda for today. [03:23] I want to just quickly shout out to Polygon. We had the Net Gala this past week, Friday. [03:33] It was a great time and they're incredible, incredible partners. So just quickly here, if you've touched crypto in any way, chances are you've already used Polygon. It's the chain quietly powering a bunch of the stuff that actually works, that people actually use, like Stripe's crypto payments, betting on Polymarkets prediction markets and a bunch more. They've been incredible partners for us. And that gal was a huge success. I think 8,000 and change raised for the Lower East Side Girls Club, 600 people. [04:02] Bushwick. [04:03] incredible fits. We coined a bunch of stuff on Zora. I think the first time a red carpet has been coined. Go to the next slide here. I think we have some party picks. Oh, [04:13] Okay. [04:14] just everybody looks incredible. Truly great time. Great fun. Max extract fun for sure. Um, [04:24] total like, uh, [04:26] just so fun to see friends and a great time okay [04:30] Oh, party picks are coming this week. So everybody who's texting me asking for their party picks, I'm on it. I'm doing my damn just to get them to you. Okay, next up. [04:43] Very excited to have on some friends of the first. [04:46] pod. We're going to bring you guys up. Jade, I'm pulling you onto the stage. Jacqueline, I'm pulling you onto the stage. Hi. Hi, friends. Hello. How's it going? Sorry. It's a little windy here. Oh, on the beach. Where are you? I knew I was going to get a comment. Yeah. I'm at another conference. I am actually working. Yes. But, you know, at crypto conferences, as we see with
[05:16] - Nice. - Okay, I want you, so we're gonna do some fun stuff here. If you both could just introduce yourself [05:25] quickly make it maybe Jacqueline you can go first who you are what you're up to [05:29] Yeah, of course. Yeah. So hi, everyone. I am Jacqueline Melanick. I am the CEO of Token Relations, and we work with Avalanche. I will be at the Avalanche Summit. And I'm also the co-host of Crypto in America. And we will also be at the summit doing a live recording on stage with Avalabs' Emin. [05:47] who is the co-founder of AvaLab. So I'm super excited to do that. Super excited to be here. Yes. [05:54] Great. I love it. We've known Jacqueline for a while. Great stuff. Saw you Friday. You looked great. Great to see you. I was at the NET Gala. It was awesome. I love a good Brooklyn warehouse. Who doesn't? Who wants to? Yeah, right. Okay, Jade, tell us a little bit about yourself, what you're up to. [06:13] Yeah, totally. So I'm the event director here at Avalabs and started my humble beginnings as a warehouse party producer in Bushwick. Oh, nice. Full circle. Many moons ago. So it's fun to hear that. I've now settled down in Boulder, Colorado. So things have changed dramatically for me. But yeah, I lead summits at Avalabs and yeah, super excited to be here and have been following the newsletter for a while. [06:43] appreciate it because you guys keep me cool. I think. Oh, that's very kind. I agree with Jade. She, she said it better than I did, but I've been a boys club fan for a very long time. You guys rock. I love that. Thank you so much. Um, we did an offsite in Boulder before ETH Denver and wow, what a beautiful. Um,
[06:59] little town you got going on there. Oh, so pretty. [07:03] I'm so glad you like it. Yeah, I love it here. It's hard to leave sometimes. I'm sure. I'm sure. Okay. What we're going to do here is play a little game of Smash or Pass. We are all, all of the girlies here are going to be at the Avalanche Summit in London later this month. It's quickly approaching May 20th to 22nd, doing a bunch of programming, doing some fun happy hours, but also super excited to be with the team there and a bunch of really great builders and [07:33] in the space. And we've all been to many crypto conferences. We've done the thing. But so we wanted to do a little game of Smasher Pass where we go through the agenda and Jade basically pitches a few of these that a few of the programming moments, some of the keynotes, things like that. And then Jacqueline gets to say, [07:53] are you going to be there or not? Are you going to smash or are you going to pass? Yeah, for the record, it's a somewhat PG version of interpretation of smash or pass relating to conference programming. Yeah, the content of the speakers. Not the speakers. Very good clarification. Very important clarification. Okay, Jade, do you want to start with the Blockchain Nation services? Or if you have a few that you specifically want to call out, we can go there. [08:23] specific few for you guys. Let's start with the mind the trillion dollar gap. [08:29] Okay, great.
[08:31] You can probably type it in the top too. I think there's a search. Yeah. [08:36] uh kate i just think this is a great one to start with because we have um marie amayati on this panel i mean on this um on this conversation i think billion kate not trillion trillion's cool you know it's cooler than billion trillion smash yeah it's mine like m-i-n-e [08:59] Oh, okay. [09:03] Thank you. [09:03] Oh. [09:04] And it's it is Trillian actually. [09:07] Oh, okay. Tell us a little bit about it. Who's talking? What's the vibe? Yeah. So we have Mary Mayati. She's the founder of Water. And she's the former global head of origination investments at Shell. So pretty big deal there. And this is for a peek into the groundbreaking shift that's coming into commodities. So she's a co-founder of an early large scale blockchain initiatives in global trade and the current director of an international [09:37] So this conversation is all about her sharing firsthand insights into how programmable assets and real-time liquidity and automated compliance are unlocking new profit models, expanding market structures, and building the next generation of commodity markets. So I think that's a really interesting one. I think she comes with a lot of history in terms of the space. And so I'm really curious to see how that conversation will go. What do you think, Jacqueline? Jacqueline?
[10:05] Is it a smash or pass? Smash. [10:08] Smash. That's a very solid one to start with. Yeah, I think this is a winner, honestly. First of all... [10:14] woman co-founder, love that. [10:17] And I also think physical commodities, that's a super interesting category that not everyone is diving into. And it's also such a better way of saying real world assets, you know, I know it's probably like, [10:30] not the same, but [10:31] that's kind of how i'm interpreting it when you were talking about it jade and then i also think just like on the d5 front there's so many different like sectors and pockets that could be expanded on so i'm excited to hear this one smash what do you guys think um i'm a smash because she has my dream job i was gonna say deep lore deep lore inbound from dina this is literally dina's dream dream inbound lore yeah um ceo of a international shipping company is literally my [11:01] I feel like you have to explain that. Like exact words. [11:07] I don't know that we have the time today, but it literally is. I'm just like, there's something really, as someone who works in sort of media and is [11:17] is [11:18] it [11:19] constantly dealing in the currency of like cool and relevance and deeply online culture. Like there's something very attractive to me where I'm like a faceless, nameless brand that it's not about the brand. It doesn't matter what the, what it does. It's just about shipping and logistics and you know what the work is and it happens and it's in international waters. And I don't know, there's just something really appealing to me about it that I'm very drawn to. So I would
[11:49] for sure. Okay. I love it. Okay. Let's, we have time for one more. So Jade hit us with your next, you came out of the gate very strong. So sorry about that. Great. No, it's perfect. Okay. So the next one I'm going to give you guys is fine wine and blockchain. [12:07] So that's a good one. This is fine wine and blockchain a pairing [12:13] Age to perfection. I think and... [12:16] Not in. [12:17] um also okay you this is like literally my worst nightmare having to like type in front of oh also these nails please i'm like [12:31] Great. Okay, Jade, let's hear about it. Okay, so this is a good one. So former Google exec turned wine tech pioneer and now founder and CEO of Curated, the leading platform for tokenized fine wine. They've already facilitated over 60 million in wine sales. So proving this isn't just a concept is like definitely a category that's happening. They're solving a centuries old problem like wine fraud. So every bottle is tracked via RFID and registered on train for airtight provenance. [13:01] So this conversation is all about how Alfonso is bullish on fine wine as a top performing RWA in 2025, joining real estate, gold, and private equity in the on-chain revolution. [13:13] So I think this is just, I mean, who doesn't want to talk about wine? This is a really interesting one. And I think it's like, it's going to be really fascinating to see how this really brings together producers and collectors. So I think this is a really interesting one. I'm excited to listen to it for sure.
[13:31] Jay, this is such an easy one. Smash. I love this. I think this is a great idea. I've actually seen them before in the past, too. So it's good to hear that it's got a lot of traction as well. And I always find that like these use cases... [13:47] when they have something that's tangible to mainstream audiences that people actually understand. A lot of people obviously drink wine. I think this is a great idea. [13:55] Are they going to give out like little samples of wine too during their keynote? Little juice boxes of wine? Yeah. Not necessarily during their keynote, but there will be other opportunities throughout the space. Okay. Okay. Yeah, this is awesome. [14:08] Very cool. Smash. [14:10] What I'm liking as a trend is we're really dealing in the real world. There's like physical shipping containers. There's real wine. There's some real wine. There's some wine. So great job, Jade. You really just gave us W's here, which I expected nothing less. And I'm so excited. I can't wait to be there. It's coming up so soon. [14:40] you can use our code boys club 30 and that will give you a nice little discount on your um pass okay jade jacqueline thank you so much for coming on dbh so fun to see you there thanks guys [14:58] - Okay. - This website, this movement, these visuals,
[15:05] and also the titles of those names. [15:07] like the other talks so fun [15:10] They did a great job. [15:11] They did a really great job. Okay, great. Let's move on. We have a lot going on here. So I'm just going to jump right back in if that works for you guys. [15:22] uh first one here um okay [15:25] Two minutes. [15:26] There's [15:27] two [15:29] crypto dinners. [15:30] that are happening this month and both are getting headlines. [15:33] Only two. Only two. Okay, just to brief you guys. The first one is the one shown here, which Natasha covered last week, which is the meme coin top holders get this dinner with... [15:52] President Trump. Of course, this is a blatant [15:57] pay to play with the sitting U.S. president. Unprecedented in terms of that. And it's really interesting. The like CNBC, all the all the sort of mainstream media headlines are calling it a blockchain based contest, which is like, I don't know, there's something about that, which is such a. Wow. Incredible reframe. Unbelievable. Yeah, just read. This is the the basically what's [16:27] token are going to be invited to this May 22nd gala. It's happening at Trump national. It's not happening at the white house. This is, Oh, it's not happening at the white house. It's happening at like a private club that they own in DC. I don't know. There's a leaderboard that you could see the top holders who's currently being invited. Um, you know, it's wall addresses and not everyone's docs. So there's, uh, there's a lot of speculation in terms of who's on the leaderboard and how
[16:57] Are there still 25 top holders get like a special VIP situation? I think so. Okay. I think so. Yeah. But there's a lot of like. [17:06] Thank you. [17:07] As you can imagine, just like foreign powers, interests, buying access. So it's really not being well received, I'd say, overall. Also, there's this really funny thing that I saw covered a few places. According to the site's terms and conditions, Trump may not be able to attend and it can be canceled for any reason. And if that happens, the attendees will get an NFT. [17:34] Oh, OK. [17:37] gosh, digital collectible. Come at me. Cover your bases. Okay. So this is the first dinner. And then there's another dinner that's, that got headlines this past week, which is the crypto and AI innovators dinner. Okay. This is being held with David Sachs, all in guy, who is also the AI and crypto czar at the, in the White House and Trump's administration. This one is $1.5 million per plate. [18:01] So quite a pricey affair. And this one is also... [18:08] very explicitly like this is a political fundraiser it's going towards his maga inc super pack unsure what the funds are going to be used for given he's constitutionally barred from running for a third term but they're still raising money and i'm sure there was a lot of it and that's what's happening dinners crypto dinners how many um seats are there do you know in the
[18:31] The crypto and AI innovators center seems very, it's much more buttoned up. This one is chaotic meme coins, black tie optional. You're going to see a bunch of unserious crypto influencers. I'm sure they're taking pictures and it being that type of thing. I think the crypto and AI innovators center is a little bit more of... [18:52] a serious... [18:53] okay fundraiser is so funny to me in a crypto dinner situation you know that people are gonna why is that we're gonna take that liberally you are yeah they'll just wear a black tie with like a crappy t-shirt and a backpack i will say a backpack and a badge i'm i was really i was really pleasantly surprised and happy to see on friday every the man's [19:20] The mans were showing up dressed appropriately. There was only one person that I was like, what the fuck? Yeah. And not one, but two backpacks. [19:28] Not one, but dose backpacks anyway, but there was only one. And, and so, um, I guess we're growing as an industry. Okay. [19:37] Wow. So Trump dinners here. We are. [19:40] Two coming up. Okay. Caffeine and birth control. Natasha, take it away. Okay. This is a really... [19:46] Um, for me personally, really quite a really interesting situation that's happening here. Okay. So I saw this tweet on the timeline a few days ago, which said, every time I see a 55 kg, 120 pound woman holding a giant iced coffee, I remember that birth control reduces caffeine metabolism by 40%, which combined with generally slower female caffeine metabolism means that a not insignificant number of Pilates girls are wired 24 hours a day. So this caught my eye, of course, because the Pilates situation.
[20:16] I dug into this because I was like, is this real? Like chat is this? I think I sent it and was like, chat, is this real? Because this is like a scary amount of caffeine that's running through your system at any given time if you can't metabolize it. And it is actually very true. So. [20:31] multiple very reputable medical journal articles. [20:36] journals have done studies on this specifically. So European journal of clinical pharmacies, uh, pub med John Hopkins. And what they found is with oral contraceptives pills. So basically the pill, they, uh, contain an ingredient that reduces caffeine metabolism by 40 to 55%. And this is basically what it's doing is inhibiting liver and a liver enzyme that's called [21:06] enzyme is what helps break down caffeine in your body. And so if that enzyme is reduced, then you have a slower metabolism of caffeine running through you. So the result is basically half... [21:18] life of that caffeine metabolism is happening in your body. So 6.2 hours is what you would have if you're not, uh, if you're not taking the pill and over 10 hours is what you're getting. If you actually do take the pill. So increasing the chance of like sleep, sleep, sleep, sleep, [21:35] disruption jitteriness like tweaking out basically by 50 that is not true of hormonal iud's so morena kylena it actually doesn't have the same effect because that is releasing so those uh common what birth control you use go ahead in the chat hit us with your birth control we'll let you know so basically like iud's release
[22:00] progesterone locally. And so it doesn't, um, [22:05] it doesn't like affect that enzyme and your liver in the same way. So it doesn't have that reduction of caffeine. Copper IUDs obviously don't have our hormone free. So they have no impact here. The one thing that is incorrect about his tweet or like, [22:20] just not exactly right is he talks about like, [22:23] gender differences between metabolism and how a female metabolism is going to be slower than a man's. [22:30] And that's like not necessarily true. There are differences in your metabolism based on where you are during your cycle and like hormonal changes, whether you're pregnant, whether what birth control you're on. [22:41] all those things that do affect that, but it's not just gender or sex specifically. Um, so all of these West village girlies that are on the pill are fucking tweaking. If they are drinking the amount of caffeine that like the average person is, it's crazy. Actually. I like live my, I'm like, if I'm not tweaking, I'm not getting enough caffeine. Like I want to be [23:02] Shaken. Yeah. I don't love that for you. Okay. I got to say it. I got to say like we, there, [23:09] It's okay. So like a venti iced coffee, which I've seen you drink multiples of has 340 milligrams of caffeine in it. And I think like the recommended dose for like a, an average man who is significantly heavier than you and who is not on any birth control is like 250. Like, I think your life would tremendously improve. To be on birth control is the point.
[23:33] Like, [23:34] But you just said if it's hormonal birth control, then... No, no, no. If it's the pill. The hormonal IUDs are not effective. Yeah, but Kate, you're still getting too much caffeine. You're still... What about for like a hundred pound gal? Yeah, here's the thing. I'm not recommended. Like I... Yeah, you... [23:53] You, here's how I make sense of it in my mind though, with your relationship to caffeine is that you're a straight edge. You don't, [24:00] drink, you don't smoke. There's no other, there's no other thing. This is my drug. Caffeine is my drug. Exactly. So you're like, I, I kind of, I'm like, okay, she's, she can give me grace to, I can give you some grace with the two iced coffees that I saw you drink last week. And then a Red Bull six hours later. Two Red Bulls. [24:18] That's insane. That's insane. Anyway, Kate, do your thing. I respect you. [24:23] You live your truth. But if you are listening to this and you are on the pill, you should know that you are not metabolizing caffeine. You are metabolizing caffeine at half the speed as your male counterpart. So just do with that information as you will. Wow. Dr. Hoskins, thank you so much. You're welcome. I'm on my medical beat today because I'm talking about Dr. Chachi BT later. So I think I might be a doctor at this point. I think so. I think so too. [24:53] - I'm from YouTube. - Okay, really quickly here. This actually isn't as much of a story as I thought it was this morning when we were creating the agenda, but the Real ID deadline is today.
[25:05] if you are traveling today on word you need to have a real id now [25:11] That's, [25:12] Not exactly true because what I have seen this morning is that the FAA or whoever it is that's dealing with this type of stuff has done the honestly like classic parenting error of being lax on the punishments. [25:32] Because basically you got to be consistent. You got to be consistent. [25:42] can still travel, but you're going to- No worries if not. No worries. It's all good. You have to wait in another line. It might take a little bit longer, but you can still fly. It's going to take extra time. Obviously, if you have a passport, it's okay. But yeah, it's basically, they pushed back the real ID deadline so many times. Honestly, at this point, I'm like, if you haven't gotten it, I know Natasha, big reveal this morning, you don't have your real ID. I don't have a real ID. I feel- You want to get E26 before real ID. [26:12] I don't think that it says anything about me that I don't have a real idea. Um, what does it say about me? It will say that the next time you fly domestically and you don't, you don't remember to bring your passport, you're going to have to wait on an extra hour line probably. And so what it says about you personally, [26:26] yeah because honestly it just means that you got it at a specific time like your time frame because they take a while to expire that just means you got it [26:35] way before it was. I was early. That's what it says. You're ahead of the trend and that's all. Just get your real ID. Everyone just get your real ID. Do I get a new picture if I get a real ID? Because my picture is absolutely. I know that's why I didn't want to redo my license and now I'm pissed off at my photo, but here we are. Great stuff all around ladies, get your real ID and to the FAA or whoever's dealing with this, just call at a certain point. You're gonna have
[27:05] People have to deal with the consequences of not having- Oh, also you can just use a passport. So yes, Miranda, and this is what Natasha can do. You can just use your passport. [27:14] I know Natasha though one day she's gonna be flying to Miami and she's not gonna remember to bring her passport and then she's just gonna have her ID and she's gonna be so pissed I'm gonna be so pissed and I'm gonna get a text [27:24] You are going to get a text and I'm going to be like, oh, I'm going to arrive 25 minutes before my flight is taking off and hoping to go through that clear line. And they're going to say, ma'am, you've had two years to get your real ID. Yeah, but you didn't get the real ID. [27:37] Okay, next really quickly here. Pectra upgrade. [27:44] This happened this morning. This is an Ethereum blockchain. [27:49] upgrade um just want to say before we started did not impact the price of ethereum not that anyone was hoping not that anyone was looking not that anyone has been looking at the ethereum chart just almost oh i do have a question for you yeah [28:04] This is a totally an aside. [28:06] Can we go here? Yes. Okay. I went to, uh, like we talked about my Botox. I found a new lady here just for those who are wondering who needed the update, found someone here, went, did my checkup, my two week checkup yesterday. Um, and I was like, Hey, you know, like I, I talked to her about getting a lower bleph, which I've talked to you quite a bit about. [28:27] And I was like, what, how much is it going to cost? And she was like seven to $8,000. I was like, okay, [28:32] should I sell all of my meme coin earnings and just do a lower bluff? But then I'm like, do I sell? It's all in Solana. Do I sell all of it at this point, at this price? Tough time to sell. I got to tell you, I got to tell you, it's a tough time. It's a tough time for me to say yes on a, on a sell order. Okay. I also have been holding a token that has gone down tremendously over the past few weeks that I did recommend you. And I will not, I will not,
[29:02] should buy this yeah and it's gone down down down no worries no worries i gave miranda some of the worst advice that's ever been given to anyone in crypto regarding solana back at an all-time low when solana had uh was experiencing trouble and i i i think there's like not a on a week that goes by that i don't think about it so no worries for me but okay i've checked in with miranda on it we talked about it yesterday because she told me the token price and i was like oh my god i need to i need [29:31] roll that into a new position. [29:33] And I am looking for recommendations. I just like, don't sell it when it's low. Don't trade. No, I'm not going to sell it, but I can trade it into something else. Never financial advice. Never. [29:44] Anyway, if someone has, I'm not going to... [29:48] I'm not going to trade it into Ethereum is, I guess, the point. Oh, yeah. I am not going to put another cent of my hard earned capital into that ecosystem at the moment. So if other people have other recommendations of what I could, it needs to be on Coinbase because it needs to be just a one moment. [30:05] Two clicks. I'm looking for a two clicks. So anyway, what's going on here? She'll Natasha your meme coin. No, not a meme coin. Not a meme coin. Put it in the comments. Okay. Oh my gosh. Okay. So Pectra is an upgrade to Ethereum that happened this morning. Benji has a really great thread on it. [30:30] it's they're calling it the people's upgrade which is a really funny way of framing it but basically like that's speaking to the upgrades that came through impectra were very much like user focused i'll talk about them in a bit versus like infrastructure or some of the other stuff that you see vitalik pull up those slides and they're incomprehensible and basically like impenetrable in terms of
[30:49] what's being done. But yeah, 11 Ethereum improvement proposals [30:55] The highlights are... [30:57] The first one is fewer clicks. So no, they've gotten rid of approve. You know, when you're in like an approve and confirm loop where it's like approve it here, confirm it here, that's gone. Oh, huge. No more like double signing. I find myself in these moments all the time where you're like constantly, and at this point I'm like. [31:16] approve, confirm, and whatever. Do whatever you need to do. Have total control of my wallet. At this point, I'm like, I'm not reading anything. [31:25] So like somebody else drive for me, somebody else. Totally. So they're reducing the number of clicks that it takes to put a transaction through, which is great. And then the other big thing is smart wallets. So I think at this point, like every wallet is a smart wallet. So what that means is you can batch transactions. You can skip approvals. You know, I think I'm trying to think of what the app is where you used to have to like confirm every transaction. [31:52] I can't think of what it is, but like basically skip approvals. If you like have something, um, [31:58] Oh, if you've delegated. I remember what it is, but I won't name names. I know. I know what it is, too. And then I think really the big one for me is that you can pay gas in any token. [32:08] Oh, cool. That's very cool. You buried the lead. You buried the lead on that one. So Kate, you're giving me a confused face. Here's what that solves for specifically. I have... [32:18] I need to send...
[32:21] You have base ETH and you have trad ETH. [32:26] and you're trying to send Tradith to Kate. [32:29] but you don't have enough ETH in your wallet. [32:31] Oh, that's so annoying. But you have base ETH. Now you can use the base ETH to send the full transaction and have the gas covered by gas. [32:41] the alternative token is that correct you know i believe so yeah okay cool okay a little bit better [32:47] That's nice. A little bit better. It is a little bit better. Kate's not impressed. Kate's not impressed. Kate's not impressed because I don't know that how, like I have been in that situation. Right. I haven't done it enough to be like, oh my God, if they just fix this one thing, it would be so much better. [33:03] Yeah. I can't tell you how many times Dina, Miranda, and I have texted each other being like, can you send me a little bit of ETH? [33:09] Like just so that I don't have to go do the whole thing just to send this thing. So even the couple of times I did it with you. Yeah. That was an issue. Uh-huh. Exactly. Um, great. So that's only, uh, basically just speaks to how little we have in all of our wallets. Totally. [33:26] We're just being really transparent here. Okay. God forbid. [33:30] There's some other stuff like cheaper transactions, like lower costs during high traffic. I feel like [33:39] There's some staking stuff, but the user improvements are the big story here. And I guess it all went according to plan and were upgraded. And I think there was like 12 minutes where there was like a cross your fingers, like hold your breath, is this going to work? And it did. Yeah.
[33:58] That's that great. Congratulations to all those who worked on this. Yes. [34:05] Okay, we're gonna go gonna roll right into Gabigol here. Let's go Gabigol. Do you want to break because you just? No, I can. I think this is actually quite a short story here. So Kate, have you are you briefed on this at all? [34:20] Um, not, no, not fully and very high, high level. So I was briefed yesterday by, uh, Jay. They're not able to come on the podcast today on the live stream today. And I have some feelings about that, but it's okay. Their boss basically said that they couldn't. Uh, so we can talk about that. We can unpack that at some other point, but, um, basically I was like, Hey, I need you to explain this thing that happened. And they very generously sent me all these voice memos and I got fully up to speed. [34:50] Basically what happened, this is niche tea. [34:53] I think this is... No, this is like so... [34:56] unbelievably niche [34:59] in its tea. I can't even begin to express it. It's the nichest of teas, but it's, it's pretty piping hot tea. If you're in that particular niche, you are the 37 people on warm cast slash farcaster. This is your tea. Exactly. Exactly. This was the, this was the biggest moment for, for that particular community. Um, this was their do mom moment. Uh, okay. So basically clanker, [35:23] There's this is like the thing that you need to know going to the story is that Clanker is like a big deal on Farcaster. It's a token launcher, which
[35:31] so like automatic it automatically launches tokens it's in the feed so it's kind of like a pumped up fund in the feed where you can [35:38] like say launch a token and then it like launches it automatically it's [35:41] this um i got the visor i got gifted a visor you got gifted the visor a really nice baby blue nike visor yeah it was cool i love how he came out to us and he was like hey i you look really cool i want to gift you this visor and he just gave it to kate and he didn't give it to me i was like no no worries i did not hear that at all i would have been like wait that's so funny no worries so i'm a little bit salty about the clanker team just because i swerved so hard with a visor like i [36:11] for a visor. That's insane. That's crazy. Also wearing a Dragon Ball Z shirt the next day. So I feel like [36:18] This person probably just knows I also wear Dragon Ball D shirts. It's a good name, recognizing game in that. Yeah. [36:25] That's generous. If you were Dragon Ball Z, Nina, that's really all it was. That's generous. Okay. So Clanker, people love it on Farcaster. It launches tokens. It's pretty famous amongst those 37 people. And there was a dev that, I think a dev, I'm not actually sure exactly what their role was, but there was someone by the name of Proxy who was undoxed. They were anonymous. [36:51] contributor to the Clanker project, I think like maybe founder, co-founder of the Clanker project. They're pretty like active and visible as proxy
[37:02] in and around the clanker world, they go to Fort Con this past week. [37:08] in New York city. And I guess what happens is they're like coming out of an elevator. This person [37:15] proxy is coming out elevator and gets recognized by a former co-worker and this former co-worker goes on to write a thread and basically is saying like this person that you guys think is called proxy is actually this other person named gabagool which incredible name like truly also incredible the i think the tweet read like i saw this the person who ruined my life yeah yeah [37:37] It was a great like rage bait headline. [37:40] Yes. Very hooked. [37:44] Exactly. Incredible copywriting. And basically it comes out that this person, Gabagool, had stolen $350,000 from the company Multisig that those two people worked out previously. They were involved in another really high profile hack too. [38:14] and [38:16] and honestly like the clanker team from what i understand has been like really responsive and they've dealt with it like in a [38:22] and like in a way that people are totally happy with. And so they're fine. They have like avoided a scandal. But I think that the lesson here is like, [38:31] anonymous
[38:33] Like you just have to be kind of prepared for anything when you're hiring people who are or like when you're collaborating with people who are anonymous. You kind of have to like expect this. [38:41] Yeah. [38:42] So, oh, you're muted, Natasha. [38:46] I'm back. Okay. Also, I think one of the, like, uh, [38:53] Alexander, the guy [38:54] who [38:55] worked on the previous project with gabagool reached out to the clinker team and was like this is what's happening they like went and got coffee with him that day [39:05] compared notes, talk through it. So I just, I feel like a shout out is totally is, uh, warranted here for those people because it would be hard to accept that someone you're working with. [39:16] is [39:17] a con artist essentially. Yeah. Yeah. I think this is like full blown psychopathic behavior to like show up [39:24] at a crypto conference after you rugged another project. Like absolutely the boldness of that. What were they expecting? What were they expecting? Like truly, I don't understand. They thought they could talk their way out of it. That's a wild thing. [39:37] Wild take. Anyway, really crazy drama here. [39:43] Oh clone. Okay. Is Daisy here? Is Daisy with us? Daisy has four more minutes to join us. So she's not here yet. Um, [39:51] so i do think we should maybe go talk about katy perry quickly yeah we can drop down to some quick hits great great great great great great great great [40:00] Here we are. [40:01] Okay. So the Mac gala was on Monday night. Um, for those watching who have never, I,
[40:09] I guess don't know what the Met Gala is. It is an annual fundraiser that Vogue does at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. And it's a fundraiser for the Met. And it's a... [40:21] is the fashion moment of the year. [40:24] It's like, who's going, it's a very tight list of who's invited. And there's a theme every year. And then all these celebrities come in couture looks, oftentimes with the designer. So it'll be like Stella McCartney dressed. I can't remember who she dresses here. Anyway, dresses a celebrity, comes with the celebrity, and then Stella McCartney is like on the red carpet with that person. Right. [40:49] There were some... [40:52] funny, [40:53] gotchas this year because of [40:56] AI. [40:57] Kate, do you want to share what happened here? [40:59] Yeah. This also happened last year. So we see Katy Perry, a photo, because everyone's just on Twitter mostly. There's live streams on YouTube, but we're all on Twitter just looking at the outfits that are popping up on these media sources. And a few are floating around of Katy Perry looking a little futuristic, but also on theme because the theme is like suits and whatnot and tailored for you. And so she's got like a little blazer and a futuristic like [41:29] dress it looks almost like what would you call this material latex latex yeah exactly um but i was like oh she looks clean she looks nice and then just scrolled past it and then just scrolled past it
[41:41] And then we talked about the next morning over some of her favorite looks. [41:44] And then we're going back and forth whether we liked the Katy Perry look or not. But the idea is it was AI. [41:49] And so last year, it's so funny because none of us thought about it. Last year, AI photo of Katy Perry on the red carpet also circulated. [41:58] Um, and then this year it happened again. So we all got duped again because she came out and said, couldn't make it to the Met. Um, I'm on the Lifetime's tour. This year I was with my mom, so she's safe from the bots, but I'm praying for the rest of y'all. [42:13] Oh, did her mom get duped last year? I think it was her mother, yeah, that was like, oh, you look so beautiful or like complimenting. [42:21] uh and scissor too right and the two this year so we all got poo craved uh this tweet was really funny it says if i had a nickel every time an ai katie perry mick gal look went viral i would have two which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice oh my gosh very funny stuff um okay just one note on this i do want to say the reason that we we all got duped here is because [42:51] did an incredible job. Fantastic job. They did an incredible job. The lighting, the reflections, like honestly reveal yourself because you, unless you're probably making so much money already doing this, but fantastic, fantastic job. Really fantastic work. Okay. We have Daisy here. Should we bring Daisy out? Let's bring Daisy out. Absolutely.
[43:11] Daisy, we're bringing you up on stage here. We're going to... [43:16] talk about some exciting things. There she is. Hey, what's up? Um, Daisy, I want time to see, I know. I love seeing you as often as I've been seeing you recently as recently as last night. And we were, we were at a Blackbird party and we were telling people about clone. We're like, yeah, we're launching this new brand together. And everyone's like, when, when, and we're both like holding full glasses of wine. We're like, Oh, tomorrow, tomorrow we're doing that. Um, well, I looked at Daisy and I was like, tomorrow, right? And Daisy's like, yeah, I think tomorrow. [43:46] don't worry about it kitten energy i did a caviar bump did you do a caviar bump i did it was delicious i had a great time um blackboard's been really showing up lately and doing some fun stuff by showing up we mean giving us free food yeah which is really i kid it i can't complain um and every time i go you surprise me you you don't tell me that you're gonna be there and then i see you [44:16] I would like to note for the record that I have more fly points than Natasha does. Yes, you do, Daisy. Yeah, we did compare notes. Not by a lot, but... [44:25] You know, it matters. It does for those who are paying attention. Are you guys tapping in when you're going places? [44:31] I just started. As soon as they started to have a... [44:33] a token that has a little bit of a use case that I can pay with fly now. Yeah. My morning coffee today tapped in paid with blackbird. Pull up to the grand central of Azelka. If you want to fight. Yeah.
[44:47] I'm tapping in, I'm taking pierogies on the train. I actually, I got emotional the other day thinking about how Don Draper never got to take pierogies on the train because [44:57] I have the same commute as him. And I was like, oh my God. I like, actually, I started crying a little bit thinking about it. I think that could have like really changed his life. I think he would have had like just one affair instead of like several. Nine. Yeah. Are you watching the new as an aside? And then we'll talk about clone. Are you watching the new Jon Hamm show? [45:15] No, but I heard it's good. Very good. It's like Don Draper, but 2025. I saw him when I was leaving Balthazar one time. [45:22] Oh my gosh, I [45:24] Okay, it doesn't matter. I've seen him once before on his honeymoon. And honestly, he did look great. But he's come back around with his new show. So he's, he's, he didn't look great. He didn't, he didn't look great. I think when you get to a certain age, alcohol goes to your face. [45:41] Yeah. I think is that age 32? Because I think sometimes you get sober and it's, it's like filler. It migrates. It takes a while. Okay. Daisy, tell us about clone. We're so excited to be doing this with you. Yeah. What is clone? What's clone? Tell us. [46:00] I love Clone. Clone, we sort of imagined it. I think our first tagline was "Drudge for Technology and Culture." Great. Everyone knows what that means. Well, I mean, everyone. [46:11] maybe above the age of 30. [46:13] I don't know if Gen Z knows what Drudge is. I probably should have done some market research before we ran with that. But and then we sort of came up with, oh, I can see somebody clicked on a link. We came up with your favorite founder's favorite bookmark, which I thought was very clever.
[46:29] Um, [46:30] And we also have, we have some, so you can see like the aesthetics are very, uh, [46:35] early internet. [46:37] And there's some interactivity. So if you click on something, it turns orange. So you can keep track of what you've read. There's a visitor tracker. It is not deduped by IP address. So if you want to run our numbers up, I'm not going to say no. The cursor is a sheep. [46:54] Got some questions about that. Real ones, no. I actually, one of the people might be me. I was like, wait, why is this a sheep? Very cute. [47:02] Settle down, children. I'm going to tell you about Dolly. I think the first or one of the first animals to be cloned, and she was named after Dolly Parton. Oh, nice. Cute. And so our cursor's a sheep, and then if you click not on a link, the cursor will clone itself, and other little small sheeps will run along the top of the footer. [47:27] And obviously my first question was to our developer was like, what is the limit? And the limit is 50 sheep. But if you want to also if you want to test that, great, just refresh the page in between each time. [47:42] Again, just really run the numbers up. [47:46] I'm going to log a bug right now. The visitor counter is not working right now. So we're going to have to... Oh, it was fixed. It was fixed like a half hour ago. You were already in dumb bitch hours, so you didn't know. Okay, great. But we literally... Look at this team. Look at this team shipping, you guys. Also, look at this team submitting a JIRA ticket live. I'll tell you what it is.
[48:05] Girls are not supposed to know about JIRA. So strike that for the record. We're at... [48:11] I feel like this feels like Goodwill hunting. 798. Nice. Nice. Okay. So, [48:18] How this is being curated is there is a group of us who are finding the things that we like on the internet related to technology and culture, and we are adding it to the website. So essentially, you can come to clone.fyi, you can see... [48:32] are [48:33] basically all the tabs that are open in our brain. And, [48:37] play around and Drudge Report for internet and culture. I, yeah. So what I like about it is if you, if you're in the crypto community, like I sort of referred to it as an editorial multi-sig, which every... [48:50] every newsroom is essentially an editorial multi-sig. You take like multiple perspectives and decide what stories will actually get written and highlighted. But we decided going in, like every link needs to get two approvals to go on the site and sort of formalize that into the backend design. And then we sort of have like our Slack proxy where we do it emoji, thumbs up, thumbs down, which is something like a lot of DAOs were doing early on when they were [49:15] um don't remind me investments sorry what's the doubt don't do that daisy triggered triggered um [49:22] So I think that's cool. I think that's like, [49:25] To me, it's interesting because... [49:27] we were like, well, what are we going to do if we disagree? And it's like, we'll have the conversation. Like, we'll talk about why we disagree. And I think that's really exciting. I might have gone rogue and uploaded a link about Bill Ackman's $5 million pocket watch. Approved. From Bloomberg Pursuits. Great. Yeah, well, Charlie Rose, we'll do it live. So that should show up in the next hour. But it refreshes automatically every hour. It crawls itself, and anything on the back end is added to the front.
[49:57] or I can like, [49:59] manually rebuild it by going into GitHub and pressing. Oh, she's in GitHub. Oh my gosh. Yeah. [50:05] Dev, Dev, do something. You know that like children's book series, it's like, don't let the pigeon drive the bus. I do. I woke up with this like phrase in my head that was like, don't let the pigeon drive the GitHub. But too late because I'm a pigeon and I'm all up in there. I want to add one other component. So if you're not like a website person, which I don't know, not everyone's like a website surfer. We do have a special relationship with Farkaster. [50:35] from clone each day and propagating them onto farcaster as well. So hoping to do honestly, like using it kind of as a, uh, [50:47] a test experiment for how farcaster can handle [50:53] distribution. We know that on Twitter or on X, it throttles links and it's not a great place for media companies and media individuals and organizations to think about distribution. I think Dan's going to accelerate our links. I don't think they're going to be throttled. No, they don't. And they don't. And also that's not part of the algorithm of Farcast or Warpcast or whatever, where they actively invite a link. So we're going to do some experimenting there, [51:23] Thank you. [51:23] It works. But that's a good place to follow along if you're not wanting to refresh a website. But also, you should refresh a website because it's really cool and really fun. And we're going to have a lot of stuff on it every hour.
[51:38] - We're also gonna have a fun little party. [51:43] If you're in New York, yeah, I out on the day. Yeah. We'll tell you the date. And then tomorrow and the newsletter will tell you the players. But May 16th, mark your calendar seven to nine Williamsburg. And it's gonna be very fun. We have some really lovely sponsors. [52:01] And some surprises too, right? - Some surprises, always surprise and delight. Okay, we're, Daisy, we're gonna go through a few other things here that we want you to weigh in on. - Okay, smash your past. [52:14] Yeah. Okay. This first story here, just quickly for folks who can't see the screen. So Facebook allegedly detected when teen girls deleted selfies so it could serve them. [52:29] beauty ads. [52:32] - What the fuck? [52:33] Okay. I do want to give a couple of caveats of this story. Mark, that's crazy, bro. Mark was out of pocket with this particular move, but there is some detail here that I feel like is missed. This chain was a little too tight. It was cutting off oxygen. Yeah. Okay. So this basically, this story comes from, so there was a, um, a tell all book, like a Facebook, Facebook tell all book that went, was published. I don't know, last month or something like that. It went wide because this, [53:03] many years. [53:04] she just was basically like, [53:06] fucking NDA. She was like, here are the skeletons. Yeah, yeah. And she wrote the book and the book's getting, it's getting picked up a lot. And also like Facebook's PR team, you know,
[53:20] is also like working furiously to discredit her and the book in ways that you're like, okay, well now you're scared. So now like paying attention, but basically this is a story from that book where it was basically saying that Facebook in 2017, Facebook was expanding its targeting for 13 to 17 year old. [53:43] women across Facebook and Instagram and they had [53:47] Someone had put together a pitch deck at some point that said they could exploit moments of psychological vulnerability where lots of different moments. But one clear example is when girls deleted selfies, it would serve a beauty ad to them in that moment. So, you know, profiting off of insecurity almost directly. [54:07] Now, that's what this story says. I will say there is... [54:12] Meta has commented and said that this was an internal research document and that there's no public evidence that this... [54:17] feature has shipped. So it's a little unclear like where exactly [54:23] I think that that where the evil starts and where it ends. Yeah. And, and [54:28] It was theoretical evil. Well, inshallah, it never ships. And I would say like Facebook meta, if you need evil ideas, [54:37] Every time Daisy Alioto posts a Spotify link on her story, scented candle ad. I'm just saying free idea. I'll fall for it every time. That's so funny, Daisy. Oh my gosh. Okay. I couldn't hate this more. I even just, even if it didn't ship, I just like can't. I know. I think the thing is, is that like it could have, like it, it maybe didn't and it probably didn't, but it could have. And I think that's the issue.
[55:07] Too close. Way too close. Oh, you know I've seen Conclave three times. Whoa. Wow. Kate, you're like a Catholic baddie, right? Kate's a Catholic baddie. She's a Christian. I'm not Catholic, but I am a baddie. I'm a Christian baddie. Christian baddie. We count that. [55:27] I did get my first communion when I was eight, though, so... [55:31] okay i guess i am catholic yeah we count that do you get a vote we're all catholic vote in the conclave we're all catholic today um wait is someone going to talk about this because i don't know i don't know anything about this to the listeners it's um conclave starts today i don't know why i'm talking about this instead of dina but dina did post on her stories happy conclave to all who celebrate and it is the photo of um [55:57] I don't know who, is this someone in the room? - No, it's either, I think she's cloud chasing. [56:01] I'm cloud chasing. It's just a cardinal. Here's the reason I posted the story. His roller bag is so sweet. Yeah, is that an away bag? Is that a riboie bag? It's not a away. It's not a riboie either. All right. Well, that would have been a nice product placement moment. So hello. Are you listening? Yeah. And then we also love this woman who went viral for her rosary nails. Incredible. And she was my inspo for my Net Gala nails. So. [56:31] You looked incredible. Thank you. [56:36] Oh. [56:37] I guess we're moving on. I was going to say Dirt has boots on the ground in Rome right now. I won't say who it is. Whoa, cool. She is, I mean, she's not going to be in Rome that much longer. So we're hoping the decision's made today. But like we might have a pretty epic scene report if everything lines up well. Wow. I really want that for you. I really, really want that for you. A little puff of white smoke.
[56:59] how romantic a little a little vatican vape and then the the news is the cardinals are now [57:07] watching to get guidance and tips on how to actually do the real conclave, which is the joke circulating. And someone tweeted this like, [57:16] basically a video of cardinals they cut it to where it looks like the cardinals are smashing like five stars on conclave and it says the cardinals logging in on the letterbox after the speaking of like mark zuckerberg i'm sure he watches the social network from time to time to like remember who he is i feel like that's sort of like equivalent here right yeah it's some cold water to the face um daisy what's your letterboxd game like [57:41] Honey, I don't have one. I don't either. My husband has one. [57:46] You struck me as a letterbox girly. No, I'm in a letterbox... [57:50] gap relationship, I would say. Okay. Kate, what other quick hits do we have in here? Okay. Dr. Chad GPT. That's me. Um, I'm going to go quick on this, but it is very, some very interesting stuff. Um, again, I am a medical professional, so this guy tweeted and basically the TLDR of the tweet is that it's two pictures. And he's saying that he went to the doctor with his dad who had [58:20] chat GPT, putting the symptoms into chat GPT. And so there's a picture of the doctor doing that. And then he's saying, it appears that he's doing this with every patient. And there's a picture of the screen and it's the log history of this doctor's chat GPT with all of these different, uh, patients. It seems like a hippo violation. Okay. That's correct. Um, that's part of the story for sure. But setting that aside, this went viral and then the discourse like blew up in the
[58:50] LLMs and using chatbots. So [58:53] One person, the reply to this tweet that got the most activity was someone saying he's probably using this for write ups. He's not using it to diagnose. So he's trying to be more efficient about that. And the person who tweeted it responded and said, yes, that makes sense because like why? [59:07] then my dad had a cut on his finger like he didn't need to be diagnosed outside of like oh we should put stitches in this guy's finger um and so that was uh part of it then there is it was a study that was done [59:20] recently that the New York Times reported on and basically was saying that chatbots, this is no surprise to me, but chatbots are more efficient at 60% more efficient at diagnosing patients using LLMs and chatbots than without it. And that they scored like 90% in diagnosing [59:50] a long research paper around their tool called AIME. And AIME stands for Articulate Medical Intelligence Explorer. And so essentially that is their LLM that's specific to medical research and what they're finding. And this report was saying that they are testing AIME to not only be able to diagnose, but also to treat. And so essentially like going from just saying like, [1:00:20] like treatment plans, medical reasoning, personalized follow-ups, and the test results
[1:00:25] showed that over a hundred of the [1:00:30] participants. [1:00:32] said that they preferred and found the Amy more superior than a doctor. So I'm like really positive about AI. [1:00:41] medical [1:00:43] improvements. I think there's a whole conversation around privacy and HIPAA and that it complicates all of this. But in terms of like what the research is showing around doctors being able to do their job better because of using these tools, like there's basically no evidence that shows that there being worse doctors being able to use these tools. [1:01:02] Mm. [1:01:03] Well, I don't know enough about diagnostics. So have doctors historically had access to [1:01:11] a real-time query database and like [1:01:14] Was it the type of thing that didn't include emerging research? [1:01:18] Because if chat GPT is like more recent scrapes of stuff that might not be included in [1:01:24] say like a queryable [1:01:27] database book yeah then i could see how it would expand [1:01:32] their ability to diagnose. [1:01:35] but they must have been using like, [1:01:38] They must have their own diagnostic search tools already. So is it that these new ones are just more dynamic? Well, I'll tell you this. [1:01:47] I went into an urgent care recently in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. [1:01:52] Mm. [1:01:53] An urgent care is you're not going to get the best of the best in that type situation. I had a crazy rash all over my stomach. And I was like, what is this rash? What is going on here? And this man sits there, starts Googling. And then he goes...
[1:02:09] any chance you have HIV? And I was like, excuse me, sir, you're throwing a, I was like, what? One, no, two bedside manner much. Like what the fuck? So I would much prefer him to be on chat GPT than a quick Google search. And I would much prefer an AI LLM giving me a treatment plan. Maybe the urgent care doctors can't. [1:02:36] uh afford the like enterprise search software the only thing the human has is the bedside manner because the robot would sure be like any chance you have hiv oh my gosh it would be like slay queen any chance um damn any chance okay we are at time but um [1:02:57] Daisy, anything else you want to share with us? [1:02:59] Anything on your mind? Um... [1:03:02] How do you feel about the downvotes on Twitter? [1:03:05] The what? The downvote. [1:03:08] When did that happen? It's the next slide. Oh, live comment from Daisy. Yeah, I really want her out at a down vote. We're going to see a lot of commentary on this. Um, you know, that's cool. [1:03:22] I think that's cool. Would you smash a down vote on someone? Yeah, I would. Oh, she definitely would. Daisy definitely would. [1:03:29] Daisy is going to weaponize this down vote. [1:03:33] I will weaponize and have it weaponized against me. You know what? I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid because one of my tweets just showed up on another meme page like two weeks after I tweeted it. So I'm feeling pretty good about myself. As you should. Thank you. Okay, guys.
[1:03:52] This is dumb bitch hour. We have a lot of fun here. Daisy, always a pleasure. Always a good time. IRL and online. I'll see you in Slack. [1:04:02] Okay, that was DBH. Join us live on Twitter every Wednesday at noon. Or here, I guess.
