[00:01] Dumb Shower is a weekly live chat on all things tech, crypto and pop culture news brought to you by Boys Club, a New York based media and creative studio. DVH is hosted by myself, Dina Burke and Natasha Hoskins. Hi. Co-founders, marketers and entrepreneurs that have built our careers in new tech and startups. We're also proudly the dumbest bitches in the room and we love to learn in public. DVH is recorded live and best consumed as a video podcast. Here's this week's show. [00:31] you [00:34] Okay, welcome to dumb bitch hour. We have a lineup today. Um, [00:41] We're going to be covering [00:42] Oh, there's a car alarm in the back. Can you hear it? [00:44] No, there's a boat. Can you hear it? Great. Okay. Uh, it's distracting for me, but I can, I can mind over matter. Yeah. Uh, [00:55] We are going to be covering a few things today. We have some Tesla news. We have some hacker stuff that we're looking at. IRS. [01:07] We have some news out of the IRS, which is always titillating. Oh, the hottest. The hottest news. People love to get excited about the IRS. Some robot stuff. But before we do that, how are you feeling? What's going on? Oh, absolutely terrible. If anybody is under the assumption that I care about this live stream right now, then I deserve an Academy Award. My divorce was finalized yesterday, and I was like, I'm sitting outside, I'm putting my sunglasses on, and Dina's just going to talk at me for an hour.
[01:37] barely making it through and I'm in Florida. I'm in Florida, which is great. Um, a divorcee in Florida is honestly like kind of hot. [01:47] You're really giving divorcee in Florida with the sunglasses and the sweater wrapped around your shoulders. It's landing. The bit is landing. I woke up early, went and got a coffee, went to a solid core class. [02:01] came back and then I'm back to back until like one o'clock today. So if you see me and you think, wow, she's like doing a really good job today. You should be like, wow, she's incredible as a [02:16] step by step, making it through. You've gotten several calls from me already today where I was like, [02:20] not in the best spot yeah in the bad spot but that's okay one percent [02:26] You feel 1% better every day. [02:29] is what they tell you. [02:30] It's been... [02:31] like more than 100 days so i don't really the math is not mathing but that's okay uh we're here i'm gonna get an incredible tan this week that's my big plan [02:42] incredible tan. See all my sister. My sister is a trad wife for four children. And she just had her fourth. And I'm going to go visit her and see all of them and meet them. Oh, the funnest aunt. I'm going to have like a nice glass of rosé and just hang by the pool and [03:04] And they're going to be like, come in, play. And I'll do that because I love them. But four children is wow, wow, wow. Yeah, Miranda, it really is. They're all so cute, though. Anyway, that's what I'm up to. I'm sitting down here eating some subs, doing a live stream.
[03:17] Well, [03:19] I don't know what the right... Don't be nice. It won't make me sad. I don't know what the greeting... I'm not going to be nice. I don't know what you say to someone when they're recently divorced. Okay, I've heard people say congratulations or I'm sorry. [03:35] That feels a little callous. [03:38] Totally callous. Those are emotionally unavailable people. But sometimes when you are like really sad and someone's nice to you, it makes it very tough to like. [03:47] have composure. You know what I mean? And so... [03:50] Personally, I'm like, [03:52] That's fine. That's a great response. [03:54] Okay. Don't, don't just say congratulations because that feels mean to my ex partner. Totally. And I don't want to do that. No, but, um, congratulations. And I'm sorry. It feels. [04:05] Great. [04:05] It's more just like the, I acknowledge the, [04:08] The teacher in me bows to the teacher in you. [04:14] The, it happened. It happened. It happened. And then you wake up tomorrow and something else happens. So that's all that we can do. Okay. Well, this slide, I feel like really speaks to where you're at. For those who are listening on the pod, we have an image here. That's two doors, one door is therapy, one door is crypto. The therapy door is open. No one's in it. [04:38] to all these people that are clamoring to get in. And that really feels like the lesson of, or perhaps the opportunity of today. - And it's validating of the reality of what it's like to work in this industry.
[04:52] Yes. I'm like, yeah. [04:54] Lots of people doing one door and not the other. [04:57] Um, okay, so we're gonna jump in here to the [05:02] Tesla, Trump buys a Tesla story. Have you seen this? I've seen this image. I've also seen an image of him sitting in the Tesla, I think with Elon. Yes. Which read very like... [05:13] Yes. Bros. [05:15] Bro-ing? Some version of bro-ing. Yeah, like almost a little... [05:21] may i say like homoerotic yes it definitely had some homoerotic uh undertones [05:27] Have you, do you remember the, I saw this tweet go viral, right? I didn't see this tweet go viral. A tweet went viral yesterday, which was the, do you remember the Sopranos? [05:35] Scene. [05:36] where [05:37] um, [05:38] They're at a construction yard. I forget the character's name, but he was a closeted... [05:42] He was closeted gay guy and [05:45] He was in, he was a made man. He was in the, he was in the group and he, um, it's kind of his story about like, whatever. [05:53] how he [05:54] how he is as a as a closeted gay man in the sopranos universe and there's where he is uh [06:01] at a construction yard and it's like early in the morning before the construction like begins. Okay. [06:07] And [06:08] he is caught like in a car situation with another man. I don't remember that. A passenger princess. It's classic. Okay. [06:19] Yeah, and I couldn't have vlogged on it. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yes. And it's like a photo of the two of them, like looking out of the out of the driver's side window and someone put it side by side. Incredible. That's incredible. And it really lined up. So, of course, that's not what happened yesterday. What happened yesterday is.
[06:40] there was a, um, [06:42] press conference, I guess, in front of the White House where [06:47] Trump was given some talking points for... [06:53] How for about Tesla? [06:55] Like literally like [06:57] Okay. Very... [06:59] explicit like here's the model number here's what makes like here's the value proposition of tesla cars and it's in front of the um white house i'm just gonna play a quick video here because there was a uh incredible [07:14] line that came out of it that we [07:17] all need to experience. How do I? So funny. [07:21] share this screen here. Hold on. [07:27] Present. [07:29] Thank you. [07:31] I fear my computer is overheating. Oh, you're going to have to move inside. I think I'm going to have to move inside. [07:37] Okay, so... [07:47] Thank you. [07:48] Thank you. [07:49] Oh my god. This is a different panel than I've had. Everything's computer. Honestly, it's kind of. Everything's computer is a line, which is just like chef's kiss, a perfect line. Everything's computer. 10 out of 10. I also feel, I don't know, there's something about it that it's kind of giving like us.
[08:12] I feel. And Kate had a great tweet that was something along those lines. I think it was like being the personality higher in tech. Totally. Totally. Okay. I'm going to, [08:24] which was great. [08:28] And yeah, I mean, I think the consideration here is... [08:32] um [08:34] a peak conflict of interest. [08:37] uh [08:38] Some would say no conflict, no interest, but I think that in this case it feels really [08:45] quite conflicted to use the White House as a backdrop for what is essentially a Tesla endorsement. So that's weird. How I feel about it is like, it's actually insane that we're living in a time where [09:03] a man, Elon, who is not an American, [09:07] is-- [09:08] in this wielding this much power over [09:12] the country and the president crazy absolutely crazy i i don't have an opinion beyond whoa crazy [09:20] yeah but that's how i feel yeah i think that a lot of people feel that way i think a lot of people feel very stronger as well uh-huh totally would be a fair uh way to feel too but i think the interesting thing here is tesla [09:39] So, [09:40] The markets...
[09:42] or bad. [09:44] and tesla's bat like everything's gone down and it can't help but you can't feel like like yesterday's shenanigan was like uh [09:53] let's try and jumpstart something. Right. And if you look at Tesla's chart here, like [09:58] Things are... [09:59] not in good shape. Not looking great. Not looking great. I feel like one thing that I'm comforted by with the market being in such a bad spot is... [10:09] um two things one it's like okay the crypto markets are following [10:14] the general stock market, which gives me some solace. I mean, it's not good because it's clear that we've not been able to separate those two things, but it feels less like, oh, we're in this crazy bear market and more like, okay, everything's down bad, not just crypto. That's one. [10:31] The other thing that I thought was a tweet that I included in the newsletter last Friday, which I thought was so funny, was... [10:38] something like another, oh, it was another market win for a girl like me who has $25,000 in her checking account. [10:47] which I really appreciate it. Cause I'm like, man, I could be doing some smarter things with this money, but, uh, I don't really know how. And then when the market's down, I'm like, [10:56] No, this is big brain stuff. Totally. Totally. You were just waiting for the big dip. Exactly. You were going to make the moves. Exactly right. Okay. So a couple more things in the story. One, this Radiohead reference for, they redid the OK Computer cover and put everything computer on it and just really good stuff. I'm in a big Radiohead re-listen phase right now. So this really spoke to
[11:26] tweet here. We need a slur for Tesla drivers. So far I have Tesla switch. Honestly, that's landing for me. It works. And then this, I got to say this man, I'm not going to pay play this impression. But [11:41] There's this guy on TikTok. His name is... [11:45] Alex. [11:47] And he has... [11:50] an incredible it's really good impersonation and it's so it makes your skin crawl [11:57] It's so good. You're like, this is so uncomfortable to watch. What a genius he is. He's 98% of the way there for like a one-to-one. [12:08] on the way Elon talks, including and the most uncomfortable thing about it is he does these [12:14] like random exhales that when you, when you hear it, you're like, [12:20] this... [12:21] Like in my soul, my stomach is flipped. It's so spot on. It's so spot on. The other thing, I feel like he's moments away from being on SNL. Like that's how good he is. Yes. It's really an incredible work. [12:35] So that's that. [12:39] We'll drop the link for him. Okay. Then moving on. Anything else on the Tesla, Elon Musk, Donald Trump of it all? Would you buy a Tesla? [12:49] Yeah. [12:50] Uh... [12:52] Thank you. [12:52] There were times in my life when I had wanted a Tesla, yeah, but...
[12:57] At this point now, I think there's other... I am interested in the Rivian, but I'm also... When I see it, I'm a little bit like... [13:07] Thank you. [13:07] when in the in the early like when mp3 players were just starting out uh-huh I was like oh I'm gonna be cool and I'm not gonna buy the ipod I'm gonna buy this like other one yeah you love to do that I had this like other it was like a little box and it was not the ipad it was like some other version and it played it played it did the job but it didn't [13:33] stand the test of time. Totally. Totally. And then also it made it tricky because I had to have different cords and then all my friends were using iPods and I was like, whatever, I had this other thing. So... [13:44] I can't help but feel when I think about the Rivian that comes to mind to me where it's like, [13:49] you're buying something that could be obsolete in your, [13:54] Thank you. [13:54] three years and then you're stuck with a big machine that has different cords. Right. And that doesn't work with any other things. And that eventually, because so much of it is like software, [14:07] gets deprecated then you're you're stuck with like I don't know a huge piece of metal and you're [14:11] driveway. So yeah, that does come to mind. The market, the, the network effects of Tesla, I feel like they're stronger. Yeah. Judging from doing a press conference on the foot of the white house, I think we're in for a long haul with them. Yeah. I, um, [14:27] personally have no desire to own a Tesla. I...
[14:31] fear that... [14:34] what it implies when you're driving it around. [14:37] It says a lot. I love a tweet that I saw the other day about Cybertrucks that was like, you're just going around, going about your day, having a good time and then boom, Cybertruck. [14:48] Yeah, I feel that. I feel that. Also, in Florida, a lot of like custom Cybertrucks, like wrapped, like different colors. [14:57] The very, very weird stuff, which I don't think builds brand equity for Tesla. That's a choice. That's a choice. Although I've said it before on this podcast and I'll say it again. My kids love the Cybertruck. Like it's the highlight of their day is seeing one. So I don't know what that says about the next generation of Tesla of Tesla. [15:19] brand equity that's being built in generation alpha, but kids love it. [15:24] So. [15:25] Okay. Okay. Next story here is... [15:31] Kind of a weird, scary one, but I figure it's a public service announcement for everyone to understand what can happen here. Shout out to Harpy. [15:39] for [15:40] uh servicing this so there's a new [15:44] Mm-hmm. [15:47] I don't know, hack. I don't know what we'd call this tactic. A new... [15:52] type of cyber cyber warfare [15:57] It's called Mass Jacker. And basically what it does is it...
[16:02] It hijacks your clipboard. [16:05] data so when you when you [16:07] when you copy and paste something, and you copy and paste an address, like a crypto address. You know how you're going, oh, I need to send you something. [16:17] send me your crypto address and then they send it to you and you copy and paste it and then you paste it into your wallet uh-huh do you hear the car alarm again [16:24] No, I was laughing at the ticker. Don't Google mass tracker. Um, [16:30] And [16:31] when you paste it in, there's like some... [16:34] thing that they do where they paste it, they change what's pasted to an address that they control. And there's like 700,000 addresses that they control or something. So it like rotates in one of those addresses and a lot, and people don't notice it because they're not like checking the [16:50] the pasted address always and so it just is it ends up sending somewhere else wow okay okay okay so basically what happens is like it replaces it with a different wallet address it replaces it with a different wallet address that they can yeah that they can oh damn [17:04] Yeah. So very clever, very low key, very sophisticated, very sophisticated. And, and like, you don't, you wouldn't know until, you know, [17:14] The funds don't arrive. Yeah. Yeah. So, [17:17] This is happening. Okay. So the solve is you should just be double checking the wallet address that you copied. Yeah. I think it's always good practice. I always double check the first four and the last four digits of the address to make sure that it's.
[17:34] going to the right place. And I think that that's a good [17:38] muscle to have yeah okay um also in order to get this you would have need to installed [17:44] um, [17:46] pirated software so I don't think I don't know I'm personally not doing that too often but that is I think I'm one of those people who believed up until very very recently this this was Apple propaganda that I completely bought into which was that there was no way to get a virus on an Apple computer [18:04] Nice. [18:05] I like genuinely believed that until like maybe six months ago. Finally, someone was like, what are you talking about? And I was like, no, like you can't like, [18:14] These computers, it doesn't, that doesn't happen on these computers. And they were like that. Think about it for two seconds. And I was like, okay, Steve Jobs did a really good job. Incredible. Singularilla marketing propaganda at work there. Honestly, inspiring. Yeah, really. Okay. So that's that. So just be careful. Look at the address when you paste it into whoever it is that you're [18:38] And thanks to Harpy for that. Okay. Next one here is kind of a fun one. Okay. Are you familiar with Mark Zuckerberg's T-shirts that he's been wearing recently? I'm unfamiliar with his game. You have not seen anything like this where it's the black T-shirt with the Latin lettering? I have not. Okay. So Mark Zuckerberg has been on his... [19:00] Yep. [19:01] I don't know, what do we want to call it? His glow up, maybe he would call it. I don't know.
[19:08] He's reinventing himself. A reinvention campaign. A personal image reinvention. As a part of that, we have the MMA stuff and all that. The Benson Boone dance and all those things. Honestly, that was a major zero for me. I was like, he's climbing. I'm forgetting... [19:29] I'm forgetting who he used to be. He only is who he is today to me. And then he did the Benson [19:36] Uh, dance. Yeah. Whatever performance for his wife's 40th. And it all came like immediately back to me. And I was like, Oh, he's such a nerd. And like, that was a misstep. That was a real misstep. [19:51] air in judgment. I think that was a misstep. I also feel like that, that performance, if he, if he really felt called to do that, first of all, it's a, it's a, [20:01] Kendall Roy, like Kendall Roy level cringe. But if you feel compelled to do something like that for your wife, like that, if that is what is in your relationship, can we pull up a picture of it? I feel we need to, I I'm not in their relationship. I don't know what works. And maybe that's how you think that was important to her. I don't know, but like, who's to say, it's not for me to judge that. You know what? I feel that's not my business, but he made it my business. [20:27] Do it behind closed doors is my point. Exactly. You don't need to whoever filmed that and posted it on social. I think I fear does not have Mark Zuckerberg's best interest in mind because that felt like a private moment. Did you ever did you watch Mad Men ever? Yes. Okay. Do you remember when he marries his second wife, the really beautiful Canadian woman with the gap in her teeth? Yes. And for his I think it is his 40th birthday, too. She does a surprise party for him,
[20:57] And then she does like a... [20:59] I think it's called like Shoebadoo or something. There's like a dance. [21:02] Mm-hmm. A performative dance that she does that's, like, quite charged in the living room with all of their friends. And he is so mad. Like, he's just, like, that was humiliating for me. And it had similar energy. It did, yeah. And again, I... [21:18] I can't like that's for them. I am a no I'm I do not want to judge that if that's what gets her off in their dynamic. But here it is. Here it is. Yeah, there it is. Like that shouldn't have. [21:34] Happened. Have been shown on social media. [21:38] Uh-huh. I don't see any world where he was like, yeah, this is a good look for me. Anyway, all that aside... [21:44] The graphic t-shirts. [21:47] So this is a screenshot from... [21:50] his acquired performance okay and he's on stage he's wearing this black t-shirt this was like a long time ago though [21:58] I think it was like, [22:00] six or nine months ago. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Not okay. Great. Um, [22:04] But he... [22:06] around this time, especially, and I think now too, he had been photographed wearing these black t-shirts with the Latin lettering on them. Okay. And, um, yeah, [22:16] they only acquired [22:18] stage [22:19] they ask him about [22:21] what's going on with what you're wearing. And he's basically like, I've started making these custom t-shirts that all have these like Latin sayings on them. Um, so the one, um,
[22:35] I don't know exactly which one this one is, but he has one that's like, there are all these like Roman historians that are like rallying cries. Okay. Carthago Delendro asks, which means Carthage must be destroyed. They're like these like Roman historians. [22:49] uh sort of wartime like rallying roman wartime like hyper masculine things sayings that are about like domination essentially oh i see and about like the the act of dominating your oh my god whatever any enemy or opponent yeah and he he's like very famously and openly and to that stuff and now he has this line of t-shirts that speaks to it very um [23:16] directly and it's like, [23:18] It's like Julius Caesar type stuff. Yeah. Dictator or whatever. And so anyway, this is a backdrop. [23:24] Then at South by Southwest, uh, [23:27] this week. [23:29] This is Jay Graber, who is the... [23:34] CEO of Blue Sky. [23:35] Okay. She does... [23:37] She wears a black t-shirt. It has Latin, uh, [23:40] lettering on it, Latin words on it, and hers basically says, [23:45] Oh, oh, oh, oh, sorry. [23:48] It's basically like it speaks to decentralization. I need to find exactly the quote. Oh, really? Yeah. Cool. [23:56] Wait, that's kind of a cool move on her part. Yeah. So hers says, um, Munda Sini Caesaroblus, which is Latin for a world without Caesars. So it's a dig. It's a direct dig. Wow. At him. Cool.
[24:10] And also kind of speaking to like, [24:13] yeah no central authority of rule yeah or domination and of course blue sky is a decentralized social network and um i think our man from farcaster should be wearing one of these next i'd love to see which one he would choose so that's that um okay well before i saw this picture one cool move on her part two i was thinking boys club should definitely do a line of these t-shirts but like whatever is written in latin is just like really dumb shit [24:43] very stupid stuff. I think that would go off. I think that would go off too. [24:51] Also, Jay... [24:53] Graeber [24:54] uh babe yeah wow I was like I had no idea gorgeous gorgeous and also like can we talk like we'll do something together like come on down I feel like I actually have we have pitched blue sky on on her coming on the podcast and uh it did not happen but I haven't heard back haven't heard back but if anyone's out there who knows Jay we'd love to we'd love to talk with her would love to talk with her for sure seems like she was at oh look Rivian [25:23] There it is. There we are. There's our hunk of outdated metal in my driveway. Call us queen. Yeah, for sure. Okay, next slide here. We're going to talk... [25:36] about Pokemon for just one moment. Great.
[25:41] Polygon. [25:41] We love. They are a sponsor and partner and... [25:46] friend friend of the pod uh [25:51] We've had the joy of having one of the Polygon ladies, I won't name her so I don't put a mark on her back, on our Crypt of the Game [25:59] Team. [26:00] And it's been such a joy. It's been such a joy. I just, to protect her, she's not given us, there's been no side chats on it. [26:09] no side chats whatsoever. It was just in a Slack where she was like, Oh, same team. That's it. Totally. So she's playing a good game by distancing herself from us. She's wise. She's, uh, yeah, she's keeping us at arm's length, which I respect. Um, but yeah, the interesting story here. So there is, uh, this thing that's happening, which you would [26:39] volume 1.1 nfts minted 4.3 million transactions daily uh 23 million in nft sales for pokemon in just february alone [26:49] Wow. Whoa. Whoa. I know. It's crazy. That's some crazy numbers. It's some crazy numbers. Um, that's the hopium for today. [26:57] This is some hope for today. I will say I'll caveat it by saying that [27:02] It's kind of a Pokemon gambling game. [27:09] Many such cases. But also arguably like all of Pokemon is anyway. Right. And it's just like, I guess there's this thing where people open the Pokemon packs and are just looking for valuable cards. And then they say,
[27:23] That's what happens in real life where you get a pack, you're opening it and you're trying to find valuable cards. And then I think you sell the valuable cards. And I think this marketplace is basically like you do that. [27:34] and then you're selling back like 90 of the time you're selling back the valuable card so it is kind of a [27:40] Cool. It is what it is, but I think some people really like it. [27:45] And this is all happening on Polygon. [27:47] Yeah. [27:48] Cool. It reminds me of, remember the two online we did probably a year ago now where you talked about there was that platform, [27:56] Yes. That had Pokemon cards. Yeah. And there was a grift. A grift happening. Yeah. That was a great episode. So if anybody wants to go back and listen to it, very funny. Great. Polygon. Love to see it. [28:10] We love you, Polygon. Oh! [28:12] Kate, do you want to come and talk about Pokemon? [28:16] Should I bring you on stage? [28:18] i could talk about pokemon for let's hear it far too long no it just it's so funny sitting back and you're like i think there's like this people like open the cards [28:29] Wait, do us like that. Don't do us like that, Kate. I'm like, Kate. I was like, I'm shocked you guys didn't ask me to come on and talk about this, but I didn't know about this aspect of it. And I'm pretty excited to. Hey, tell us, give us the gospel of Pokemon, please. Um, there's just like this, uh, very popular Pokemon app in game right now. Uh, that yeah, it's like online Pokemon and you open a car, a pack of cards daily digitally.
[28:56] digitally, exactly. And also they're releasing their [29:01] original 150 packs that if you've seen the videos people are lining up and fighting at Costco for those sort of things. So this feels timely. [29:11] Pokemon is always timely, to be fair. [29:15] It's primeless. I think, isn't it like the number one entertainment... [29:20] Yes, IP. In the world. Like it's yeah, it is. It is. Would not be surprised. Well, phenomenon. [29:29] And you are a collector? I am a little collector. I go to Japan and I buy special ones in Japan. Wow. Okay. Are you like framing them? Yes. You are? Okay. Wow. Cool. That's cool. I'm like little keychains. Did you play the game? Pokemon Go? When I was younger. I'm more of like a first gen. There's like different generations. So I'm like the OG 150 player. [29:59] 151. [30:00] Okay, 151 crew. Yeah, any of the new stuff I'm not so into, that's like probably your boys. [30:07] Yeah, they know all of them. They just started making blobs and calling them Pokemon. [30:12] Can you tell me a little bit about what it is that... [30:16] draws you to it [30:18] I think I grew up being very into anime. [30:22] So. [30:23] It's one of the OG animes.
[30:26] And that's, it's a nostalgia thing for me. What human truth does it speak to? Hmm. [30:32] Mm-hmm. [30:33] What are the human truths? Well, I guess like, good question. Good answer. No, excellent retort. I guess like I'm trying to under, I have a hard time like identifying with it. Like I see them and I'm like, I don't, I don't, I can't. [30:51] I can't connect. You don't connect. I don't connect. And so I want to consider yourself a collector. [30:57] The collecting aside, [30:58] I'm not. But the collecting aside, just the story of it, like the character of it, the characters of the Pokemon universe, the Pokemon universe generally, like what is it that you... [31:10] find [31:12] magnetic about it? There's a few different aspects. [31:16] The adults that I know that are collecting them [31:20] there's always an element of nostalgia to it but it's a lot of the artwork [31:24] So the ones that I'm collecting for, it's like, oh, this is a rare piece. [31:28] It's rare, just like if you were to collect fashion pieces or something like that. It's rare. It's good artwork. [31:35] And that's what makes it interesting. [31:37] So, [31:38] to an element it's like [31:40] artwork it's an aesthetic yeah okay okay i respect that wow thank you kate i'm so glad we had a resident expert ready locked you wanted to come on you're welcome thanks kate uh [31:56] Okay. We're going to go to our next story here. This is a fascinating tale. Okay. The IRS, just quickly, I just feel like it would be useful for you and anyone who is listening, who doesn't already know. Any tax paying individual? Anyone who's, well, not necessarily. It's more of a crypto industry thing, but basically the US house voted to overturn an IRS rule that
[32:23] DeFi brokers, like DeFi platforms, to have to report taxpayer and transaction information. Okay. So they overturned this. There's something that I found here that said that this rule would have cost the industry $260 billion and 4 billion hours annually in compliance, like just to keep up with the reporting of it. But I think just more... [32:49] generally like [32:51] that if that were to have gone through, that would have turned like a Uniswap into something that resembles much more of a centralized entity. If they were having to collect... [33:01] user information and report on the user information and report on the transaction information like that is just like completely antithetical to [33:10] what something like Uniswap stands for and yeah what DeFi stands for more generally. So this is a big win for the industry. Can I just ask a clarifying question? Yes. So [33:21] just did my taxes. I log on to Coinbase or Robinhood or, you know, [33:26] Yeah. [33:27] centralized exchange and I go and I have to download my tax forms. And part of my submission to my accountant is, are those tax forms essentially what this is, [33:38] made [33:39] What... [33:40] now is not required of DeFi protocols is to have that same functionality. I think a version of that. Yeah. Okay. That might be a simplification, but yeah, I think that, [33:50] that's a good way to think about it. So big win for
[33:54] censorship resistant money and I think just generally um [33:58] just speaks to a broader deregulation that I think is healthy for what it is that we want to see in this industry. So a good news story. [34:05] A great, great, great love to hear it. [34:08] Have you done your taxes yet? [34:09] Me? [34:11] No, it's on my list. And also I feel a pressure to do the taxes for business entity as well. But our accountants are basically like, [34:20] Wait, because... [34:21] So much is in flux. So much is in flux. But I'm a... [34:25] I like to file and then my brain move on. Me too. Someone the other day was like, oh, I'm just going to file an extension. And I can't get down with that. That is miserable to me. Me too. It's been hanging over my head for more time. Me too. Thank you. Yeah. I want to know what I owe. [34:43] as soon as possible. Yeah. [34:45] Do you know what you owe yet? Not yet, but it's not going to be good. I'm a 1099. So we're in a tough spot come tax season. I hope you have your little savings account ready. Oh, I do. It's fired up. My American Express high interest savings account. Shout out. It's not very good. So like, don't, I don't actually recommend it, but I have been putting, um, but yeah, I've been putting money away, but like every year it's just like, [35:10] what fresh hell am I going to get from my accountant? That's not very good. You don't do quarterly, uh, [35:17] estimated? [35:18] Honestly, this is so embarrassing, but how I feel about it is I'm like, I just don't know if I'm going to send it to the right place. Respect. I'm just like nervous about it. And like, I just don't want to be like, I just, I don't know. It feels like the certified check needs to happen, which like who knows how to do that? Not me really. And so it's just not happened, but I have used the estimated from last year.
[35:40] This is so interesting to the fascinating stuff. I have a, I have a guesstimation of what it's going to be. And like every year I hope that it's going to be less. [35:51] Every year. I remember one year, a few years ago, I got like a big tax bill and I was just like, [35:56] I remember being like talking to our accountant. We have the same accountant. [36:00] um, [36:01] Not the Boys Club accountant, but us, our personal accountant. He's a funny character of a guy. And I remember, like... [36:08] calling him and being like, [36:10] what can we do? [36:11] And he was like, what do you mean? And I was like, I had the money, but I was like, I don't want to pay this. And he was like, this is literally not how it works. Like, you have to pay your tax bill. [36:21] And I was just like, we got to find a workaround, Adam. [36:24] And he was like, no, there was no, there was no workaround, unfortunately. So anyway, that's, I'll let you know. I'll let you know what I know. Yeah, keep it posted. Okay, next thing. Can you move the slide? [36:35] Oh, great, great, great, great, great. Okay. [36:38] me i fixed it it was on my end okay great uh just like a a funny one here [36:45] Blake. [36:47] beautiful Blake, lovely Blake. Finugan, I just have to say, [36:52] I love like so... [36:54] so much me too she is just a delight to have around has an incredible sense of humor impeccable timing in her humor and i just you send her a slack message i just have to apologize on on stream here you send her a slack message being like hey can you come on the show today yeah she didn't respond and i thought i'm just gonna text her too and i was like hi blake no no response but that's okay it's really early she lives in
[37:20] Toronto, Vancouver. So she's on the Pacific time zone, which is tough when you hit her with a [37:28] 7am central time. Totally. So anyway, she posted a video yesterday that was about this Japanese artist, Takayuki Toto, who created this, I don't know, art installation of a robot dog. And I got to say, her video is worth watching. We'll link it somewhere. But it's... [37:48] she's talking through the art installation and sort of the context around it. And did you see the video? [37:55] I have not seen it. [37:56] Okay. [37:59] I just got a notification that, um, [38:02] one of my kids got into summer camp for a week, so free summer camp, which is great. Great. Great. Great. Great. Uh, so anyway, Blake, uh, [38:15] Yeah, this video is crazy. It's... [38:19] a big concrete room as you can see and the dog is the the robot dog is on a leash okay and the artist has programmed the dog in such a way so that it [38:30] it charges at the people who are doing it kind of erratically. Cool. It's not like – Stressful. [38:39] It's yeah, it, it doesn't feel like organized in the way it doesn't feel organized. Yeah. It has a, I mean, the only word appropriate word is erratic. It like comes in. It's, [38:48] it doesn't feel like robotic in the way that you would expect. It feels more like animalistic, I guess. Okay. And then it also, in addition to charging, it's,
[38:57] it also like stumbles sometimes and it like, Ooh, Ooh, that's uncanny valley. Yeah. Yeah. It like gets caught up in the chain too. Okay. And, um, [39:07] It just gives you all sorts of feelings for this... [39:12] I, this... [39:13] object which they have imbued with these like animalistic whatever tendencies and it's just a really interesting [39:24] um [39:25] I don't know. [39:26] a thought experiment art experience we should see if they would want to do some installation for neck gala [39:33] Oh, that's a great idea, actually. Thank you. That's a really great idea. Related to that, [39:40] on the same vein, there's this other video that went viral this week, which I'll present over here. [39:47] Thank you. [39:48] Yeah. [39:48] Which is this video, I don't know if you saw it, how quickly this robot gets up after being pushed. [39:55] She basically pushes over this little robot in a conference room and [39:59] then the robot oh my gosh but which that's a creepy part but like what gets what got a lot of attention is her pushing it yeah i don't like it it's very violent it's very violent it's a weird feeling because [40:15] I don't like it. [40:16] that [40:17] Of course, it's fine. It's a machine. But there's something about it. It doesn't feel like a machine when she's doing it. Yeah. Also, the size of it makes it almost feel like a child. So it feels like she's harming a child. Right. And I think also, like, as I'm watching it. Oh, my gosh. I don't like it. As I'm watching it, I think the other thing that it brings up for me is.
[40:37] um there's something [40:40] Like, [40:43] There's like a human... [40:45] um [40:47] in like a, there's a, there's something in her desire to do that, which is ugly, you know, that reveals something about us as humans that like, we have that in us to do that. We don't do it because we're all have been socialized in a certain way so that we like, don't do that type of thing. But when you break that sort of fourth wall, you're, [41:06] It's like, yeah, it reminds me of, I have a similar experience of watching this that I do to like, I like violence in movies, like, [41:14] doesn't really get me. Like it's not that, I don't know, but the, the thing that does get me, [41:20] when I'm watching a movie that like I have to turn away from that I can't look at is [41:25] like a horse [41:27] a horse falling or a horse like getting shot or like in like war movies I cannot watch it like it really upsets me yeah and it's like the same thing it's like maybe this robot a majestic being is being harmed and I don't want to watch it yeah yeah yeah totally um [41:46] So that's that. Our eagle eyed viewers would have seen that on my Reddit tab there. My recent, my recent Reddit subreddit visits, which is our, the Reddit of Timothy Chalamet and the Reddit of Banff Canada. So the range that I have on Reddit. But yeah, that's that. I recently had to unsubscribe from my Reddit emails. Like, you know how you get like emails from Reddit if you're active on there?
[42:16] some reason i think it was because we did an episode on look [42:19] look maxing a while back. For some reason I was like, [42:25] getting emails from the subreddit, um, [42:28] be honest, am I ugly? And it was like, I was like, this is so sad. Like, yeah, it's so dark. And it [42:38] of course, mostly women taking pictures of themselves being like, Hey, like be honest. And I was like, I unsubscribe from literally unsubscribe from it because like, this is not good. This is a bad place to be on the internet. And anyway, that's, I've taken a little beat from [42:56] read it for a second. I respect that. Yeah. There's dark crevasses over there. Um, okay. Quick one here. There's a new Tik TOK feature that, um, I think we all need, which is for teens. So under the age of 16, like if you have a Tik TOK teen account, basically it plays, uh, this new feature will play calming music and display a wind down if teens under 16 are still scrolling after 10 PM. [43:23] okay honestly i need this we all need it we all need it so shout out shout out tiktok um and then just the last story here this kennedy uh kate sent this to me uh i saw this going around what is this i don't really know what the context is there's a few few things so for those who are just listening it's a photo of um secretary
[43:48] Kennedy. [43:49] in steak and shake and [43:53] I think there's a couple reasons why this one viral. One, he's standing really awkwardly. Really bad. He's standing bad. It's a beta stance. It's a bad stand. Also, I think another reason why it might be going viral is because he looks quite trim. He looks very fit. I think he might be hitting the, I don't know. I don't know. I don't want to, I don't want to, I'm not going to go there. Everyone's body is their own body. You know what this is giving to me? The weird stance, [44:23] It's giving when women have their friend take a picture and then they take like 50 to 60 images. And then the one that like they look most flattering is the one that's like kind of the weirdest. And they're like, it's fine. I'm just going to post that one. It's kind of giving that energy. Yeah, I can see that. And I think he's vain enough to have that as a case as well. And I think the third reason why I might be going viral is because he is frequent, despite being the voice for like Make America Healthy Again, he is frequently photographed in fast food restaurants. [44:53] Kate shaking her head in agreement. So I think the third one there is why this is going viral. Now, [45:00] I will say one thing. [45:02] I don't know what a steak and shake is. [45:03] I was going to ask, you've never been to a steak and shake? I've never been to a steak and shake. [45:07] Oh my gosh. Wow. Okay. Is it a Southern thing? A Florida thing? I don't know if it's Southern. [45:15] It's a Florida thing. I haven't been to one... [45:17] The last time I went to one, I was in high school and it was like during a mall visit, you know, when you're like at the mall with your friends and then you go to Steak and Shake. Um...
[45:26] And the smell is... [45:29] takes up, uh, uh, at least a three mile radius, like of Greece. Um, and, and it's not good. Like, it's not like in and out. Is it like a Philly cheesesteak situation where it's like a shaved steak on a sandwich? Kind of. And it's like burgers and shakes and like milkshakes. Okay. Milkshakes and meat is how you can think about it. Very varying degrees of meat. Um, so it's really gross. Like, [45:54] I'm shocked that they're still in business, honestly. [45:57] is my feeling what's your favorite if you're to choose one [46:00] uh faster restaurant where would you where'd you go um [46:04] Am I indulging or am I like... [46:06] You're not dieting diet choices at a fast food restaurant. You're, you're, you're hitting it real. [46:18] I would say a double, double in and out fries, uh, [46:22] Fry's [46:23] double fried. [46:26] Wow. [46:27] I don't know what double fried is, but it sounds. It's just like the fries at In-N-Out are not very good. That's just like everybody knows that. But if you double fry them, they are for people who like crunchy fries. I like a crunchy, crunchy fry. I do not need. If you put a steak fry in front of me, that's a hate crime. [46:42] I don't want it. I don't want to see it. It's disgusting. So I want like a fry that you bite into and it's just like all crunch. Yeah. So if you do double crunch, [46:50] fried fries at In-N-Out. They're very good, in my opinion. And then you do a side of the sauce and then you dip it. And then double...
[46:59] Cheeseburger. [47:00] Okay. So that's what about you? Well, that I got to say, that's kind of a coastal elite. Absolutely. That you made there. I'm sorry. I think kind of flies in the face of what your favorite fast food restaurant is. [47:11] is like, I mean, in and out is fast food. I said, if I said, um, you don't live in California. So that's a silly thing for you to say, because I think that's part of why it's my favorite, because it's like, it's, it feels so indulgent. Cause I couldn't get it every day. Okay. Okay. If I said, um, steak and shake, no shake shack. That's also very coastal. We [47:34] Is it? [47:34] It used to be. When I first moved to New York, it was like the only one was Washington Square Park. We're in JFK Terminal 4. That's always oversubscribed. Completely. You can never get in. So busy. The hottest, New York's hottest club is Shake Shack at Terminal 4. Okay, tell me. Popeyes? [47:53] Chicken sandwich. I do love a Popeye's chicken sandwich. I am... [47:59] a recent convert to chick-fil-a having moved to tennessee oh my gosh it's so good i mean but that is [48:06] problematic it's problematic it's problematic for sure five guys is a great choice five guys is a great choice uh we have we have a commenter saying sorry but we're going with five guys ladies uh five five guys is great bad fries [48:19] I've actually, I don't know that I've ever had a five guys burger. Oh, the burgers are great, but the fries are, are not good. Um, and yeah, [48:27] That's. [48:27] that that's that um i'm trying to think of anything else that i really love i mean
[48:34] There is a local... [48:36] chain down here in South Florida, a local fast food chain, called Pollo Tropical. [48:41] I don't know if Kate is familiar with the game of Pollo Tropical. Oh, man. Okay. I think there's maybe like three, four locations. So it's like a micro fast food. It's a family-owned fast food restaurant. And it is very good. And it's like Cuban-inspired, like very loosely held. And I got to say, it's like beans and rice and chicken. And can't go wrong. Can't go wrong. Can't go wrong. I will do an indulgent Taco Bell. [49:10] Okay. Everyone's wild, but everyone else in my family hates it. So I'm like solo, riding solo there. And I love a Taco Bell. It's never worth it to do a solo trip, but yeah, I do. I do like a Taco Bell. Okay. Next time I'm in Nashville, we can go ahead and talk about it. I saw the other day, someone tweeted like Taco Bell has never given me a stomach ache. And like, [49:27] basically like get off the ass of choco bell because some people can eat it and be fine [49:32] And I'm like, wow, that's an iron stomach. Oh, I never get it. I'm always fine, but... [49:39] i'm always fine too oh no my stomach always hurts after always the amount of grease like i'm just like whoa baja blast i've never had um [49:48] Anyway. [49:49] That was our fast food segment. Great. Well, thanks to everyone for tuning into DBH. Love you all. And a few things. Oh, okay. Great. A few housekeeping notes. We will be back live streaming.
